Gentle, focused work to support healing scars.
Scar therapy massage offers calm, targeted touch after surgery, injury or c-section – helping ease pulling, tightness and changes in movement so your body can begin to feel more like “you” again.
What is
scar therapy massage?
Scar therapy massage works gently with the layers of skin, fascia and muscle surrounding a scar — helping reduce tightness, sensitivity and restriction so the area can move and feel more comfortable.
Using slow, precise movements and light to moderate pressure, treatment supports softer tissue, easier movement and a more settled sensation around the scar.
What are the benefits of scar therapy massage?
Results vary from person to person, but many people notice meaningful shifts in both physical comfort and how they feel about the area that has been through surgery or injury.
Improved comfort
Treatment can help ease pulling, itching, tingling or “dragging” sensations in and around the scar, so the area feels less insistent in day-to-day life.
Better movement & softer tissue
Scar and surrounding tissue can feel more supple, with better glide between layers of skin and muscle, making it easier to stretch, twist, reach or stand upright.
Support for body image
Working slowly and respectfully around the scar can help you reconnect with the area, feel less guarded and develop a kinder, more accepting relationship with that part of your body.
Nervous system support & complement to care
Gentle touch can help the body move out of “protective” patterns into a calmer state, and scar therapy can sit alongside physiotherapy, remedial massage, lymphatic work and medical follow-up as part of your wider support.

How does scar therapy massage work?
Preparing for scar therapy
A little preparation can help you feel more relaxed and get the most from your session.
- ✅ Make sure your scar is fully healed and signed off as safe to touch by your GP or consultant.
- ☕ Avoid large meals or lots of caffeine directly beforehand.
- 👕 Wear comfortable clothing. The area may need to be uncovered, but you will always be draped for warmth and privacy.
- 🧴 Skip heavy creams or oils on the scar on the day of treatment.
- 🩺 Tell me about any recent changes such as redness, heat, swelling, discharge or new pain around the scar.
Supporting your body afterwards
It is normal for your body to keep processing the work for a little while after you leave the clinic.
- 💧 Drink water to support circulation and tissue recovery.
- ✨ Expect the area to feel different – often lighter or freer, sometimes mildly tender for a short time.
- 🚶 Gentle movement such as walking or light stretching usually helps your body integrate the changes.
- 🏋️ Avoid heavy gym sessions or very intense exercise for 24–48 hours, especially after deeper work.
- 🧡 Follow your plan. Combining massage with movement, self-massage and the use of oils or silicon patches usually gives the best outcome.
